2011 District Conference

You are invited to join your fellow Rotarians and Friends and attend the District Conference for 2011 at the Hellenic Club in Woden ACT. The Conference and all meals will all be held in the spacious rooms of the Hellenic Club. Registration opens on Friday October 21st from 3.00pm.

The Hellenic Club has a great reputation for serving quality meals and a varied, delicious menu has been organised for each meal. The Club has a number of eating areas and meals will be available if you chose not to take part in the organised meals.

On Friday the College of Governors’ meet for lunch. There will be a Friendship Dinner on Friday night. Entertainment at the dinner will be by the very popular Chris Harland, Blues and Jazz Trio. Chris was voted Best ACT Blues Guitar Player of the Year in 2008. The band will play mood music during dinner and increase the tempo for dancing later in the evening.

Saturday morning, 22 October, will commence at 7.00am with an Australian Rotary Health (ARH) breakfast, the breakfast is to celebrate the 30 years of ARH. Registration will open at 7.30am along with “Rotary Expo” showcasing Rotary related activities and Rotary Fellowships as well as some of our generous sponsors.

The Conference will commence at 8.30am, the programme is full of interesting and informative speakers showcasing a number of Rotary programs including Youth and the Foundation, there are three keynote speakers, who will challenge, and entertain you with their life experiences.

Dr Alan Hawke AC, former Head of Commonwealth Public Service Departments, Ambassador, Chancellor of ANU. Suzi Duncan – Wheelies with Wings, teaching people with lower limb disabilities to fly. David Copley ARH – awarded a number of ARH scholarship to study Nursing, Mental Health Nursing and a Masters of Nursing.

A partners program has been organised for Saturday afternoon which include a 1 hour’s cruise on Lake Burley Griffin. Transport to and from the conference centre to the cruise will be provided.

Saturday Night’s Conference Dinner

"The World of Rotary Friendships and Fellowships" The Conference centre can accommodate 500 people for the dinner dance on Saturday night. The band will be OFB and will play music for the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Sunday

Sunday will commence with the President’s and President Elect’s breakfast, which everyone is welcome to attend.

The Conference will reconvene at 8.30am with an Interfaith Service. The morning program will feature a message from the Rotary International President’s Personal Representative, followed by the finals of the Four Way speaking competition, The Keynote Speaker and highlights of Rotary Programs.

The Keynote speaker on Sunday morning is Alan Locke, OAM, the most accomplished mountaineer in Australian history.
