Immediate Past DG - PDG Phil Armstrong (Moruya)


Phil joined the Rotary Club of Moruya in 2000 and has held a variety of positions, including Treasurer, Vocational Service Chair, President (2004–05) and Foundation Chair. At District level, Phil has served as an Assistant Governor, Vocational Service Chair and as District Chair, Service Projects, and District Club Visioning Coordinator. Phil’s ties to Rotary go back to his father’s membership of the Temora and Goulburn Mulwaree Clubs, as well as his own membership of the Rotaract Club of Canberra North and attendance at RYLA in the late 70s. Phil was recognised as a Paul Harris Fellow by his Club in 2008.

Phil and Kim moved to Mossy Point in 1989 from Howlong (near Albury) but Phil has long ties with D9710, having been born in Adelong and lived in Taralga, Goulburn and Canberra where he attended boarding school for seven years. Phil is employed as the Chief Executive Officer for Banksia Villages Ltd in Broulee, a community based, not-for-profit organisation operating a 50 bed residential aged care facility and 90 self-care retirement villas. Kim works as a travel consultant in Batemans Bay.

Community involvement has a long history in the Armstrong family, with father Gordon anAnglican priest and mother Freda commencing Meals on Wheels and a Senior Citizens Club in a number of parishes. Freda was recognised as Citizen of the Year in Harden Murrumburrah in the1960s. Phil’s brother, Keith, is a Past District Governor of Apex, and is a member of the Rotary Club of Moruya; brother Bruce has a long history with Lions but has recently joined Rotary in Victoria and nephew Tony is a past Rotary Youth Exchange student and current member of the Rotary Club of Moruya.

Phil serves on the Board of Aged & Community Services Association of NSW & ACT, the peak body representing the church and charitable sector in the aged care industry. He is a Director of Campbell Page, a community-based organisation, and Chairman of Campbell Page UK, asubsidiary company operating in the United Kingdom.
