Reach Within to Embrace Humanity

Nathan Ramia

Nathan Ramia Nathan Ramia grew up in Memphis, TN, and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with degrees in American Politics and Chinese Language.

He is sponsored by District 6800 in Memphis, and will be hosted by the Canberra North Rotary Club for one year as he pursues a Master's degree in Strategic Studies from ANU.  After the completion of this degree, Nathan will return to the Active U.S. Army as an Armour officer.  Nathan is in Canberra with his wife, Thy, who is on a leave of absence from her job in the US State Department.

Nathan is especially interested in the strategic situation in East Asia and the South China Sea, and his academic focus is on the U.S. relationship with China.  He studied abroad in China for around six months, and has travelled to another dozen countries in the region and around the world.  During his undergraduate time, Nathan edited an academic journal and played rugby and ultimate frisbee, in addition to debating on West Point's Policy Debate Team.

In their free time, Thy and Nathan enjoy travelling and reading, and are excited to explore Australia and the region.  Nathan is especially excited to get plugged into the local Rotary community, and appreciates the invaluable opportunity to learn and grow in such a unique environment.  West Point developed and challenged Nathan's notions of and commitment to service and the chance to experience Australia and graduate school in the context of involvement in Rotary will be a chance that few others get -- one he'll take full advantage of.
