2012-13 Ambassadorial Scholar – Sarah Jewell

Sarah has been selected to be the outbound Ambassadorial Scholar for 2012/2013 for District 9710.

Sarah completed her schooling in Melbourne (Korowa Anglican Girls’ School) and studied Law and International Relations at ANU where she graduated with a Bachelor of Law (Honours)/Bachelor of Arts in July 2011.

While at ANU, Sarah has worked part time at Toora Women Inc which is a Canberra NGO that supports women experiencing homelessness, drug and alcohol issues, domestic violence, mental health, trauma and women exiting prison.  She has worked across two roles – WIREDD (Women’s Information, Resources and Education on Drugs and Dependency) and as a Research and Project Officer in Toora Women Inc’s Management Office.

Sarah commenced full time employment as a Policy Officer in the Dept of Immigration and Citizenship in July 2011.

As well as paid employment, Sarah has been a volunteer in a number of humanitarian programs including:

• Man up campaign – a 5 year international campaign to educate youth to eliminate violence against women which included being one of the five Australian delegates at the Youth Leaders Summit n Johannesburg in July 2010.
• UN Women – founding member and inaugural secretary of the Young UN Women Australian Canberra Committee
• Toora Women Inc – incoming member of the Board of  Governance in August 2011
• Youth Coalition of the ACT – member of the Board of Governance for the peak body for youth affairs in the ACT
• Attendee at the Australian Youth Led Convention in November 2010 which brought together the top leaders of Australia’s preeminent youth led organisations

Sarah’s first study preference is Trinity College in Dublin.
