Matching Grants

It is hoped that we can participate in at least 20 matching grants this year. A worthwhile project in a developing country CAN be completed if your Club gets involved. There is funding available through District Designated Funds that could see your Club’s contribution multiplied by a factor of Seven!

Humanitarian Grants

District Simplified Grants (DSG)

A new initiative that will replace the former grant categories of Helping Grants, New Opportunity Grants, Transportation Grants and Community Assistance program Grants.

  • Applications may be lodged with the District Foundation Committee, which has discretion to approve the project and the payment on terms it considers appropriate. The new system should enable applications for small local, national and international projects to be processed quickly and any payments approved made promptly. Regular reporting and accurate accounting for the grant and associated expenditure are key requirements.
  • Each year the District may apply for up to 20% of its DDF entitlement to be allocated to a DSG.

Individual Grants

  • Will replace grants available previously as Grants for Rotary volunteers or Discovery Grant programs. They will subsidise the travel of individuals or small groups (2-5 people) for qualified international humanitarian service in Rotary countries for periods of up to 60 days.
  • Funding is provided to plan future humanitarian projects or for a direct service to the benefiting community.
  • Rotarians, small groups of Rotarians, spouses of Rotarians, Rotaractors and qualified Rotary Foundation alumni are eligible to apply for these grants.

3-H Grants

  • Awarded, on a competition basis, to fund long term, self help grassroots development projects, which are too large for one Club or District to implement.
  • Are intended to assist a community in need through an international service project carried out in co-operation with Rotarians in another District in another country. There is expected to be active participation of Rotarians in both the sponsor and project site countries. A significant portion of contributions to the project must come from outside the project country.
  • Projects can be sourced from publications detailing World Community Service projects, from contacts your Club members may have made with overseas Rotarians through programs such as GSE, at International Assemblies and Conventions or through international exchange scholars.

Matching Grants are divided into 2 categories:

  1. Matching Grants are awards of between US$5,000 and US$25,000
  2. Competitive Matching Grants are awards of between US$25,001 and US$150,000
  • Both the international and host sponsors must work together to prepare and submit interim and final reports. Sponsors are required to submit an interim report every six months for the life of the project and a final report within two months of completing the project.
  • The Rotary Foundation will match contributions to the project on a dollar for dollar basis if the funds are an allocation from the DDF; if the funds are cash contributions to TARFT or The Rotary Foundation, those contributions will be matched fifty cents for each dollar contributed; if the sponsor pays the cash contribution directly to the project or host sponsor’s account, there is no matching grant from The Rotary Foundation.
