The various programs of RAWCS offer different opportunities for providing service to the world community.
Each club has different skills it can contribute and therefore with the broad range of programs offered by RAWCS. Your club should be able to find at least one program which is appropriate to achieve your objectives for International Service, and hopefully you will be able to undertake several very worthwhile programs!
The different programs fall broadly into three areas:
Projects, which just require donations, are listed under National Project Funding in the RAWCS Handbook. They include projects under International Project Advisory Committee (IPAC), and Save Water Save Lives (SWSL). Many of the projects only require small donations to achieve significant benefit to the lives of the community. Others of course require larger donations. Use the RAWCS Handbook or contact the District Committee.
DIK have a warehouse in Prospect in Sydney, which is a clearinghouse for “preloved” equipment. In particular we are looking for Educational Equipment (books, desks, anything from schools which is in good working order) and Hospital and Medical Equipment, which has been replaced but is still serviceable and too good to be thrown out. Keep your eyes open and send it to the DIK warehouse. Clubs are responsible for getting equipment to the DIK warehouse. Consider this as a club project this year. Alternatively if you know of a need overseas, load and send a container of equipment as a club project. Contact a member of the District Committee for more information or the manager of the DIK Warehouse, PDG Ken Nicholls, (02) 8814 7175.
Books are not managed by DIK but donations are coordinated by the Ranfurly Library Service. Please contact Ken Horler, Rotary Club of Sydney - 02 9909 3379 (except Thursday when he is at he warehouse in Rozelle).
FAIM Projects
The annual survey of FAIM projects has just been completed. In recent years there has been a shortage of available projects however this year there is a good selection of projects available, particularly in PNG and East Timor, with 13 projects being allocated to Eastern Region. Information on these projects is available on the Eastern Region Website:
http://intranet.rotary.org.au/rawcs/project.htm and from your committee members. I have attached a list of the projects that have been allocated to Eastern Region. Please contact your committee member for more information and if you are interested in arranging a FAIM Team or joining another club and going on one of these FAIM projects.
