Reach Within to Embrace Humanity

National Youth Science Forum (NYSF)

NYSF offers Year 11 students a unique opportunity to test-drive careers in science, engineering and related disciplines. Applicants should be about to enter the final year of secondary education, have demonstrated an outstanding interest in science and technology, and be considering some field of science as their future career.

For 12 days in January, students attend one of three Sessions held in Canberra (Sessions A & C) and Perth (Session B), living on campus as university students. Participants meet scientists and researchers, visit them at work and do the kinds of things that scientists do every day. The students pick up valuable skills and experience to give them the edge in Year 12 and beyond. Rotarians can meet with participants socially at a reception, and subsequently by home hosting for a day.

NYSF works closely with Rotary Clubs around Australia to select participants. Selection is competitive and not based solely on academic results: applicants should have interests outside school.

Applicants must submit an application online by 31 May. Clubs interview applicants— each application must be sponsored by a Rotary Club in order to proceed. Clubs forward sponsored applications to the NYSF District Chair by 30 June. During July the District team will make the final selections for the following year.
