In the spirit of Rotary, the key drivers of the Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise are ‘fun, fellowship and service’. We work with local, national and international organisations to assist those in need through a variety of community service projects and development opportunities.
Supporting youth has been the strong focus for our club since its inception over 21 years ago. We have sponsored participants in the youth programs of Rotary in Australia and internationally, provided support to the National Youth Science Forum and supported a wide range of other local and international youth programs.
A youth flagship activity that the Club has run annually since 1997 is the national Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) at the Museum of Australian Democracy (Old Parliament House). This event brings senior secondary students from around Australia to engage in a weekend of lively debate on current world issues in a simulated United Nations chamber.
The Club also seeks to focus its support on the local community. Recent fund raising has provided support to the Boundless Canberra ‘all-abilities’ playground project, Technical Aid to the Disabled ACT, the Wheelchair Foundation, the Southcare Helicopter, the Canberra Hospital Oncology Ward, the Night Patrol Van and the Soup Kitchen in Garema Place. Club members also regularly support the Handy Help program, through which we provide home and garden assistance for handicapped or the aged people needing that type of support.
